EARTH PRESSURE CELLS
Earth pressure cells are used to monitor the total pressure in earthfill dams and embankments or at the interface between the structure and the excavation wall. The earth pressure cells consist of two stainless steel plates, welded together around their periphery. The anular space between these plates is filled, under vacuum, with de-aired oil. The pressure pad is connected via a stainless steel tube to the transducer, forming a closed hydraulic system. The stress is then converted to an electrical signal and may be remotely read on a variety of portable readout units or dataloggers.

NATM STRESS CELLS
Sisgeo flexible diaphragm NATM Stress Cells have been designed to optimize measurements of radial and tangential stresses in shotcrete and concrete tunnel lining. The stress cell consists of a pressure pad connected to the transducer by a hydraulic line. The internal cavity between the two steel plates of the pressure pad and the hydraulic line is filled at factory by oil. The oil is deaired as well as the pressure pad under high vacuum in order to obtain the minimum oil compressibility. The rigidity of the cells are assured by the transducer, which has a ceramic diaphragm with negligible volume displacement in comparison with the cell cavity.

A length of high-pressure rilsan tubing connects the cavity of the pressure pad to the pressure transducer. A re-pressurising device is available for expanding the cells after the concrete has cured. Readings are obtained with portable readout units or dataloggers.

HYDRAULIC ANCHOR LOAD CELLS
Hydraulic anchor load cells are used to monitor loads in tiebacks, rock bolts and cables. They consist of two ring-shaped stainless steel plates welded together around their periphery. The pressure pad between the plates is filled, under high vacuum, by de-aired oil. A Bourdon manometer connected to the cell body directly measures the load. The manometer is calibrated in the lab to allow direct readings in kN. Electrical models equipped with 4-20 mA output pressure transducer are also available for remote readings. A very stiff distribution plate is supplied, in order to ensure that the load is applied equally over the loading surface of the cell. A bearing plate may not be required if adequate provisions have been incorporated into the installation design.

ELECTRICAL ANCHOR LOAD CELLS
Electrical resistance anchor load cells consist of a ring-shaped stainless steel body which incorporate from 8 to 16 electrical resistance strain gauges in a full bridge configuration. Typical applications include performance testing of anchor systems in tunnelling or deep excavations. The cell design minimizes the sensitivity to the eccentric load. Anchor load cells are available in a variety of ranges and diameters. A very stiff distribution plate is supplied, in order to ensure that the load is applied equally over the anular loading surface of the cell. Readings are obtained with a C6003 hand held digital indicator, Galvani readout or Leonardo datalogger.

STEEL LINING LOAD CELLS
Steel lining load cells are specially designed to monitor steel lining stress and pile testing. The L2CE model consists of a stainless steel cylinder body with a pressure transducer. The pressure pad is held by two stiff stainless steel plates and is saturated, under vacuum, with de-aired oil. Special distribution plates with spherical surfaces are available to improve the quality of the measurements. Electrical Resistance Load Cells are designed to perform pile testing and to monitor load compression of struts, tiebacks and arch supports. The L2CT model consists of a solid cylinder body manufactured from high tensile, heat-treated steel with precision bearing surfaces. It incorporates from 4 to 8 electrical strain gauges, in full bridge configuration.
